CIVIL1 is proud to announce that it recently was successful in providing civil engineering services to BNE Energy Inc.
The project led to the siting of the first wind turbines in CT as part of the state legislature’s mandate to increase the state’s reliance on alternative energy sources to 20% by 2020.
CIVIL1: Meeting the Challenge
This project posed a number of significant challenges.
Consider the following: CIVIL1 had to plan for moving a 450 ton crane up a 16% grade to site the turbine tower. On top of this tower will sit a 60 ton GE turbine turning 135- 165 foot turbine blades.
Trucks will need to bring in 20 loads of components in order to fully assemble the crane.
Together the two properties, Colebrook North, a 125-acre site, and Colebrook South, an 80-acre site, will form Connecticut’s first commercial wind farm, a $24 million project whose six turbines will have the capacity of generating up to 9.6 megawatts of electricity.
The project will also create a number of jobs for the neighboring community.
As President and Founder of CIVIL1 Civil Engineering, I can say without hesitation that these are the types of projects that we like to take on.
Our engineering staff has the experience in the field and the expertise in the office to efficiently help our clients, whether it’s brownfield site remediation, new commercial construction, multi-family communities, airports, or wind turbines.
