On the Cutting Edge Of Alternative Energy

CIVIL1 is proud to announce that it recently was successful in providing civil engineering services to BNE Energy Inc.

The project led to the siting of the first wind turbines in CT as part of the state legislature’s mandate to increase the state’s reliance on alternative energy sources to 20% by 2020.

CIVIL1: Meeting the Challenge

This project posed a number of significant challenges.

Consider the following: CIVIL1 had to plan for moving a 450 ton crane up a 16% grade to site the turbine tower. On top of this tower will sit a 60 ton GE turbine turning 135- 165 foot turbine blades.

Trucks will need to bring in 20 loads of components in order to fully assemble the crane.

Together the two properties, Colebrook North, a 125-acre site, and Colebrook South, an 80-acre site, will form Connecticut’s first commercial wind farm, a $24 million project whose six turbines will have the capacity of generating up to 9.6 megawatts of electricity.

The project will also create a number of jobs for the neighboring community.

As President and Founder of CIVIL1 Civil Engineering, I can say without hesitation that these are the types of projects that we like to take on.

Our engineering staff has the experience in the field and the expertise in the office to efficiently help our clients, whether it’s brownfield site remediation, new commercial construction, multi-family communities, airports, or wind turbines.

Brownfield Site Redevelopment = Opportunities

To be successful, redevelopment projects require the effort of a team working together towards and having confidence in the project’s vision and process.

CIVIL1, established in 1993, offers skilled planning, effective engineering, and an impressive record of approvals of permit applications for hundreds of development projects.

Two Recent Redevelopment Projects

The key to success for our clients and local communities, alike, is our commitment to getting the project right the first time. Our team specializes in developing engineering solutions that meet the developer or owner’s needs, while fulfilling the regulatory requirements of local communities.

We use a collaborative approach to determine the true needs of the regulatory agencies, the deep concerns of neighbors, and focus on the linkages of these with the goals and desires of the owner/developer. In Connecticut and the surrounding five states CIVIL1 has the proven ability to work within a complex regulatory process while consistently maintaining excellent relationships and communications with all involved.

Our experience covers a wide rage of projects, including Brownfield redevelopments, residential communities, and industrial parks.

RiverFall Project

Currently, CIVIL1 is working in conjunction with the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and local and state representatives on the RiverFall project in Seymour, CT.

The project will transform a 4.54-acre Brownfield parcel into a mixed-used commercial/residential redevelopment and will contain 52,000 SF of new buildings. Our services include demolition plans and specifications for the existing building, a comprehensive stormwater management plan, final civil site design services for the three new buildings, and permit approvals through local, state and federal agencies.

Additionally the project is located at the confluence of the Little and Housatonic Rivers and therefore flood studies are a major component of this project.

PAL in Waterbury, CT

CIVIL1 provided civil engineering services to PAL in Waterbury for their new inner city park on Division Street.

This project has received statewide attention for the opportunity to turn brownfields to greenfields and will provide in improved quality of life for the residents in this area.
